Learn To Play Lead Guitar

Let me explain. Articulation refers to how you sound your notes. You can of course play the note by picking it straight away but there are a number of other options available to you. Slide into it, hammer on or pull off to the note from a previous note, bend into a note and add some vibrato for vibe. Once you start exploring these various articulation techniques you'll start sounding a lot more convincing and you're on your way to becoming a guitar hero!

Playing lead guitar requires you to have a good knowledge of scales and note choices so it's not surprising at all that being a good rhythm guitarist and understanding chords and chord tones will greatly benefit you as a lead guitarist. After all the notes you play need to make sense with the chords they're being played over!

So how do you develop phrasing? Simple. Learn some of the licks and solo's of the guys who can. That's how they learnt and if it's worked for them it surely has to work for you.
